Building Safety Month Focuses on Fire Sprinkler Protection

This May, jurisdictions across the United States will celebrate advances in constructing safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient buildings and homes as part of the International Code Council‘s (ICC) national Building Safety Month.

For the last 34 years, the Building Safety Month campaign has focused on improving public safety by increasing awareness about how building codes and code officials improve and protect the places where we live, learn, work, worship and play. The campaign has received support from the President of the U.S., governors, mayors, county executives and other government officials and construction industry professionals.

This year, residential fire sprinklers will be featured during the Week One theme of “Keeping Fire In Its Place.” This emphasis follows the 2013 Week One theme of “Fire and Safety Awareness,” which also highlighted residential fire sprinklers.

Residential fire sprinklers have been written into the ICC’s International Residential Code since the 2009 edition. Hundreds of communities across the United States have already adopted the 2009 and 2012 editions.
