HFSC Offers $1,500 Stipends for Fire Departments Partnering with Technical/Vocational Schools

HFSC_Logo-largeThe nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) is offering three $1,500 stipends for fire departments to create a partnership with instructors and students at a local high school or technical/vocational school (for future homebuilders, residential architects, etc.). The purpose of the partnership will be to carry out a brief home fire sprinkler education program with the students and to host a live fire and sprinkler burn demonstration in 2016.

side-by-side-hfscThe goal of the stipends is to increase awareness of home fire sprinklers among future homebuilding tradespeople and advance the use of an effective local public education tool: side-by-side fire and sprinkler burn demonstrations.

The $1,500 stipend must be used to complete a brief home fire sprinkler education program with technical/vocational school program instructors and students, which may include viewing HFSC’s 20-minute educational video and completing a brief quiz provided by HFSC. (View the program guide and student course and quiz.) The stipend will also pay for the costs of supplies to build, furnish and conduct the fire and sprinkler burn demonstration and any costs to promote the program.

Only U.S. and Canadian fire departments that are part of HFSC’s free and easy-to-join Built For Life Fire Department program may apply for the stipends and they must agree to implement their program by year’s end 2016.

APPLY NOW: The deadline to apply for the $1,500 technical/vocational education program stipend is May 15, 2016.
